WE ARE
Colorado Springs community members advocating to end family detention and supporting immigrant families through prayer, education, and action. A group of Christian mothers who feel deeply troubled by how our community treats immigrants and refugees leads these efforts. Our belief in the gospel of Jesus Christ compels us to petition and pray for the vulnerable, the foreigner, and all of God’s children. If you resonate with the listed values and commitments below we would love for you to join us in advocating for our neighbors.
WE COMMIT
to nonviolence in both our actions and our words.
We embrace the sentiment “Your enemy has overcome you when he has made you like himself” and strive to speak truth, demand accountability, and treat everyone involved with respect and dignity. We will not use derogatory or hateful language toward anyone. While we will speak out against injustice and hate, we will resist becoming what we oppose.
WE STAND
with our immigrant neighbors—citizens, green card holders, undocumented people, asylum seekers, and refugees.
Most of these neighbors contribute productively and compassionately to our communities and deserve respectful treatment. Department of Homeland Security data show that the vast majority of those detained—between 65 and 85 percent—have no criminal record.
WE VALUE
empathy for our neighbors and community members
justice, rights, and due process for those detained
transparency and accountability for those benefitting from this mass detention and deportation of immigrants
Living out a faith defined by love — for our brothers, our neighbors, strangers, and even our enemies — just as Christ taught us.
WE BELIEVE
in the inherent dignity and value of every human life regardless of national origin, race, or ethnicity.
families and children should not be removed from their community to be held in detention for weeks, months, or years.
children should not be subjected to the trauma, uncertainty, and fear of being detained or separated from family
in our country’s commitment to liberty and justice for all.
the checks and balances of our government outlined in the constitution that protect both citizens and non-citizens alike from inhumane treatment.
the commitment to upholding, implementing, and reforming immigration laws that establish just and compassionate ways for foreigners to seek a path to citizenship.
In light of these values, we are gathering those who want to mobilize into community action.

The immigration system is in need of thoughtful reform that reflects both justice and compassion. A functioning system should promote order, accountability, and human dignity while responsibly stewarding taxpayer resources. Policies centered primarily on mass deportation have proven not only inhumane but fiscally unsustainable, placing heavy burdens on families, communities, and public systems. Meaningful reform offers a better path forward—one that upholds the rule of law while creating fair, workable processes that recognize the humanity of our neighbors and strengthen the long-term stability of our nation.
Many immigrants have already endured profound hardship and trauma in their journeys to this country—many of them following the very legal processes our immigration system established, such as seeking asylum at ports of entry or waiting months for government-issued appointments through official channels. This moment is not about lawlessness, but about how we treat people who attempted to follow the lawful pathways available to them and are now being apprehended and detained alongside their children.
The stories emerging from the Family Detention Center in Dilley, Texas (and other family detention centers) reveal families living in conditions that are deeply troubling, cruel, inhumane, and inconsistent with the dignity every person deserves. As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect Christ’s love and compassion in how we treat our neighbors—especially the vulnerable. Scripture reminds us, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” — John 13:35
